4D & 5D BIM — common questions.

Does my model need to be complete first?

No. It needs to be structured. A schematic model with a sound breakdown sequences better than a detailed model whose elements cannot be mapped to activities.

Is 5D the same as a cost plan?

No. 5D links quantities from the model to your cost structure. The rates, risk and commercial judgement stay with your cost team — we make the quantity side traceable to an element.

Can you update the sequence as the job moves?

Yes. Once the mapping exists, re-running against a revised programme is a maintenance task rather than a rebuild.
